A couple of tips for you about images........ Because I have no actual server space for hosting images, I would suggest linking directly to them i.e. hotlinking. It's not something many hosts like doing, but hey, this site is free. However, I would highly recommend using imageshack in the USA - imageshack.us/ That's free and simple to use. If you have any questions, the admin team are always happy to try and answer them.

DaveG... welcome to my little world.
Hopefully we'll have a few more people join soon so the forum can take off and maybe with your "connections" to VC's, you could teach us a thing or 3?
We've only been going a couple of weeks and most visitors haven't stopped by to say hello, but here's hoping!

Hi Les,
What is your standing on the amount of VCs awarded for Rourkes Drift?
Do you think it was politically influenced to mask the disaster of Isandlwana?
I dont mean to detract any valour from the brave men by any means but curious on opinion.
Regards, Womo

Hi Womo.
The amount of VCs for Rorke's Drift and Isandhlwana were exceptional for the time. But remember it was only 23 after the first investure and Britain was still at war with many nations. South Africa proved to be a hard war to fight and the gallant actions of a handful of men against staggering odds, obviously proved beneficial..... several battles after Rorke's Drift and Isandhlwana were won on the strength of knowledge from these two battles.
I don't think there was any influencing, as at the time the VC could not be awarded posthoumously. The London Gazette listed all the names for both battles on the same day and commented "that had these two men (Melvill & Coghill) lived, they would surely have been awarded the Victoria Cross". It wasn't until 1907 when the decoration was awarded posthoumously.
Les.

Hi Andy Lee founder member of 'Four for Valour' - live in Bournville West Midlands. In the main I'm a VC field researcher and to date have researched and visited nearly 900 VC grave sites throughout the UK & Europe. I was good friends with the late great David Harvey 'Monuments to Courage' who taunt me so much and also good friends with Kris Wheatley 'Legacy' who researches the defenders of 'Rorke's Drift'.
Les - Great site mate, please keep up the great work.

Hi Les Been busy promoting you site to other researchers so hopefully you might get some more sign ups. There is a good forum on the Zulu Wars www.rorkesdriftvc.com/ and VC stuff regularly comes up there so maybe worth adding your knowledge and taking questions on that forum. Anyway great site please keep up the good work. Andy
