Congratulations to Mark Donaldson being awarded the First Victoria Cross for Australia.
Must admit I never heard about it until I read it on here. and I am surprised it has never been mentioned in the news over here, but then again Bill Apiata was never mentioned either. I wonder why?

Australia, for very good reasons that I support, has its own honours system. When Australia participated as an equal partner in the Imperial Honours System Australian awards were automatically reported. Now, it will only be reported in the UK if local media think it is of interest. Since Australia seems to be combining the announcement and presentation into one story then there is only one official event that may be reported. So to get all the news you have to go to groups such as this forum.

I have read that Trooper Mark Donaldson has already loaned his Victoria Cross to the War Museum in Canberra.
Do you know how long it will be there for, as I will be in Sydney in April and would make the trip to Canberra to see it if it is still there.
