I've finally gotten around to putting together Brigade & Divisional information for First World War VCs - far more names than the Second World War, but information generally easier to find. Here's the list as completed so far - uncompleted entries are all at the end, after Major Cloutman. Almost all of them are from Indian units whose divisional info I have yet to find. Any assistance on these last twenty-three men would be very much appreciated, after which I'll put up a fresh file with recommended changes. (This list also corrects some unit errors from the battalion-level list I put up on this board some time ago.) Attachments:

Thanks Les. I have now been able to down load the file. Congratulations to David on an excellent spreadsheet. I was particularly delighted that David defined a posthumous award as an award in which the recipient was killed or died before the date of gazette whatever the cause. Our lists matched perfectly of this issue. I noted only one typo - Arthur Hutt is 48 Div not 48 Bde. And perhaps Cyril Basset could be listed as NZ and Aus Div. A great deal of work and I am slowly having a close look at it.

Sharp eyes on Hutt's Division - thanks.
Another mistake I noticed myself not long after putting the file up was Mir Dast - his unit was actually 57th Wilde's Frontier Force, not the 55th. I'm sure more mistakes will surface before too long . . .

Thanks to some more digging, and Anthony's terrific input, the list is just about complete - all that remain are Second-Lieutenant Maufe of the 124th Siege Battery and Corporal Dawson of the 187th Support Company. Those units were probably assigned to brigades at corps or army level, which unfortunately makes them damned difficult to track down. Still, any info on these last two men would be greatly appreciated - almost there!
Looking at this list, relative to the WWII figures, it's remarkable how many awards were racked up by some divisions - twenty of them had ten or more VCs, and six had fifteen or more. Those six were as follows:
29th Division - 26 (including 11 at Gallipoli) 1st Canadian Division - 24 1st Australian Division - 20 (including 7 at Gallipoli) 5th Division - 18 (including Cloutman, the last, and Alexander, one of the first) 2nd Division - 17 Guards Division - 15 1st Division - 15

Have now completed the file with some new info as well as all the input I've gotten - some people have had trouble with pdfs that I've put up, so this time I'm posting it as an Excel file. It also includes WWII VCs. Brigade & Divisional columns are hidden to the right of the Unit column; other hidden columns are for more exact locations (for WWII only), rank/decorations at the time of Gazette as opposed to action, as well as columns that allow sorting by Gazette date, name, rank, service, and time between the action & award. Here's an updated version, incorporating some corrections as well as more precise locations for WWI awards - now, like the WWII sheet, you can see both theater & specific location. Attachments:
