The Prime Minister, the Rt Hon David Cameron MP speaking to the House of Commons on 7 March 2012 in regard to an address to be presented to The Queen for her Diamond Jubilee stated ‘At her first investiture as Queen, the very first decoration she presented was a Victoria Cross for heroism in the Korean war.’ That presentation on 27 February 1952 was to Bill Speakman. The Queen has presented ten of the 13 post Second World War awards to six recipients and four next of kin. The only awards she did not present were three posthumous awards, the first award for Korea which was presented by the late King George VI in February 1951 and two awards for Vietnam presented by the Governor General of Australia in 1967 and 1968.
