Nepal: Victoria Cross recipient Gurung dies at 87 Bhanu Bhakta Gurung (87), the Nepalese recipient of Victoria Cross (VC) - the highest and most prestigious British Award for gallantry has left for heavenly abode, Saturday, March 1, 2008. Late Gurung died at his home in Gorkha District. In the year 1945, during the Second World War, Mr. Gurung had exhibited his bravery while fighting for the British in Burma Front, as a soldier in the Gorkha Rifles. Gurung was decorated by the VC in the year 1947 by the British Queen. Thaman Bahadur Gurung, Bhanu Bhakta Gurung and Gaje Ghale, all from the district of Gorkha, Nepal, who were decorated with the VC have already died.
