The young soldier who earned a Victoria Cross and the praise of a nation for his valiant actions in Iraq has revealed he has paid a terrible price for his bravery.
Asked whether he regretted being awarded the VC, he said: "I am proud of it, but you don't get something like this for free. You get it and survive with the pain - or you get it and die."
