Hi there I came to this forum to ask about your opinion of this as I wondered if I was alone in being aghast at how tacky and totally bereft of any form of humility this tattoo is. I would imagine that the head shed, those on the awards board and the VC/GC brigade will be horrified by the tattoo. I remember a quote on that fantastic VC programme with Jeremy Clarkson that went something like "...winners are often quiet, unassuming and avoid detection. They have nothing left to prove to anyone" Hmmmm. Not really in this case then eh?Plastering a bloody great tattoo of the medal (especially with 'For Valour') over your back is the complete antithesis of this. It just makes me cringe. I used to admire Beharry but he has plummeted in my estimation.
Does anyone else agree?

Hi Tim,
I agree it does "lower the standard" a bit. There was quite a debate on another forum (14-18 war related) and it was mixed. Some said it was tacky where others said that although VC recipients are unassuming, this tattoo will 99% be covered up so no one will really know.
Anyone else out there with a liking/disliking to this tattoo?

Have to agree with timu 100%, it seems to me that being one of only a few people left who have the real thing and can wear it when the occasion arises, that what he has done is a complete abomination and I wonder, as we say over here, does he have a screw loose.

We would do well to remember that we are discussing Lance-Corporal Johnson Gideon Beharry VC here. I would suggest that it's up to the small community of peers who are qualified to pass judgement on his behaviour if they see fit.
