Nice one Robert. I was look for this only the other day and came up empty. The site says that Channel 5 are screening the 3 part TV series this month - time to put the ol' Sky box on overdrive ;D
They also say that the DVD set will be launched on 27 November.... time to put some pennies to one side!

Michael Ashcroft's long-awaited book, based on the new TV series Victoria Cross Heroes, was launched yesterday evening at the Imperial War Museum. The author restated his intention to put his 145 VCs on display in a permanent Exhibition of Gallantry and will shortly announce its location. Also there will be a DVD of the series which will be on sale from 27th November (for details log on to http://www.victoriacrossheroes.com) Lord Ashcroft drew warm applause when he announced his intention to send a copy of the DVD to the history department of every secondary school in the country.

Just a reminder - the TV series (all 3 parts) starts tonight on Channel 5 (in the UK) at 8pm. Here's the Radio Times preview for it......
1/3 - The Modern Age
Private Johnson Beharry, 27, was awarded one for his bravery in Iraq two years ago; Gurkha Rambahadur Limbu got one in Borneo in 1965, while Bill Speakman received his in Korea in 1951. They are three of only 12 people who have been awarded the Victoria Cross for bravery in warfare since the end of the Second World War, and they tell their stories in the first of this three-part series. Introduced by the Prince of Wales, it commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Victoria Cross and the 1,355 people who hold what is the ultimate award for valour. The dramatic reconstructions are clunky and the narration is slightly leaden, but there's no stopping your heart swelling with pride and admiration when you hear about such extraordinary courage. It may only be a little piece of metal but, as Lord Ashcroft says, "It's a tangible relic of a brave act."

Les I have just been slowly turning green as I was reading the above message and wondering how you were so priveledged to see the programme before anybody else. Then I read it again and realised you were quoting from the radio times, I am turning back to normal now.

Has anybody managed to get their hands on a copy of the DVD yet. Our local HMV store are having difficulty getting it apparently due to heavy demand, and if anybody has it how much more does it show compared to the TV episodes.

OK les, At least we are not alone over here trying to get it. The reason I use HMV is my son is the manager and I get a bit of discount. What did you think of the television series, I thought it was very good as it gave a bit more background information on the VCs that it featured than is normally found in most books. And the interviews were very good as well, at least it was not just some so called expert giving their opinions.

The show was good. Some people I've spoken to said the opposite, but they've just got a general interest in war related things. In particular, I thought the way the Sgt with Johnson Beharry was good. He referred to Beharry as Johnson and treating him like a normal grunt. The WW1 "episode" was very interesting, like you say, giving more than just the normal text book information. The reinactments were quite moving too!
Can't wait for the DVd to watch it all over again and again and again....... ;D
