Last week Eric Wilson moved Sir John Smyth into ninth position as the Victoria Cross recipient who has held the Victoria Cross the longest since gazettal. On 14 October this year, Eric Wilson will be one of just seven recipients who have held the award 68 or more years after gazettal.
